This section explains the major features of a domain name account and the things you need to be aware of with regard to their function and use. It is not necessary for you to understand in great technical detail everything there is to know about domain names, but the features described below are the ones you will encounter during the registration process, and the ones most likely to cause you trouble if they are not handled appropriately.
This is the company that the domain was purchased from. Top level registrars include Network Solutions, DirectI, etc. Many smaller companies also function as registrars by reselling domains from the top level domain providers. dotWeavers resells domains from DirectI who is an ICANN registrar, since they sell domains to resellers only. The registrar is also the company you pay to renew your domain name when the registration period is up. Domain names can be transferred from one registrar to another following specific rules. There are a number of domain registration scams out there which appear to be renewal notices when in fact they are registrar transfer forms. The easiest way to recognize them is to know who your registrar is and only accept renewal notices from the company you bought your domain from.
This is the basic information returned by a WHOIS query on a domain name. It contains the ownership and contact information, the registration and expiration dates, and the DNS servers for the domain. This is the information you are creating when you register your domain. You can find a WHOIS query form on most domain registrar sites, and there are also many independent WHOIS servers where you can check domain information.
This is the first contact you have to fill out, and arguably the most important, at least from a legal standpoint. The person or organization listed in this contact is considered to be the legal owner of the domain name. This can be a serious problem if a client asks their designer to purchase a domain on their behalf and the designer registers the domain with himself as the owner. It does happen, unfortunately far too often, and if a legal dispute arises over the ownership of the domain this can be very problematic. You should always make sure whenever someone else buys a domain for you that you are listed as the owner.?If we at dotWeavers purchase a domain name for you, you have our guarantee that you will be the designated owner of the domain.
For operational purposes, this is the single most important piece of information about your domain. Almost all of a registrar's business is done with the Administrative Contact. As you might guess, this is the person or company that has administrative rights to act on behalf of the Registrant and make changes to all aspects of the domain name, including all contacts, name servers, and sub-domains. If you lose your domain manager password, this is the person that the registrar will ask to deal with in order for you to get it back or change it. The contact information for the administrator should be kept as accurate as possible at all times, particularly the email address. The administrator's email receives all renewal notices, password reminders, and other business email from the registrar.
The number one mistake people make when registering a domain name is not keeping the administrative email address current. Many people change their email address before the registration period is up and drop the one they were using when the bought the domain. This results in failure to receive renewal notices and the inability to receive password reminders from the registrar if your password becomes lost. When that is the case, you usually have to go through a painful process involving a fax request form with a copy of a photo ID and several days of waiting to get the registrar to update your information for you. This is not fun, and if you are not patient it is not something you want to have to do. Keeping the Administrative Contact up to date is the best way to guarantee that your domain name will be quick and easy to manage whenever changes are needed.
You should always register a domain with an email address you plan to keep for a long time if at all possible. One mistake that companies often make is when an employee purchases the domain and uses his own contact information, then that employee later leaves the company, has his email address deleted, etc., and generally makes life difficult for everybody who has to manage the domain after he is gone. If you are using a company email address, it is best to use a general company address such as the one we use, domain@dotWeavers, or if that is unavailable, the address of a senior employee or manager who isn't planning on changing jobs anytime soon.
Fortunately this one is nice and obvious. This is the person to be contacted by the registrar regarding any billing matters for your domain name, including registrations and renewals. If the billing contact is different from the registrant or the administrator, those two contacts may also receive billing notices from the registrar if the billing contact can no longer be reached.
This contact is usually the person or organization responsible for maintaining the DNS servers that resolve the domain to a website, as well as handling other technical problems related to the domain. In most cases this will be your web host, ISP, or the registrar you bought the domain from. You always have the option to change this contact to yourself or someone else of your choice, such as the website designer.
DNS stands for Domain Name Server (also referred to as Domain Name Service or Domain Name System). A DNS translates domain names into IP addresses. If someone wants to access dotWeavers web site (www.dotWeavers), the DNS translates the domain name into its corresponding IP address 70.86.149.2, allowing the computer to locate dotWeavers web server. The DNS for your domain will normally be provided by the company hosting your website, and you have to make sure that you have the correct DNS settings specified in your domain account in order for it to display your website properly. When you change hosts, you also change DNS servers, which is why you need to keep your domain manager login. If you can't change your domain's DNS settings, then you can't change hosts. The domain registrar can still change this information for you if you have no way to do it yourself, but as with changing contact information it involves a tedious fax verification process that you don't want to go through if it can be avoided.
A domain name can have a maximum of 67 characters including the extension (TLD) (.com, .net, .org). A domain name can contain numbers 0 through 9, letters a through z or dashes (-). Domain names are case insensitive, i.e., myDomain.com and MyDomain.com are one and same. Domain name cannot start or end with a dash (-). Register your website now
Yes. Information about the registrant and people who is responsible to manage, billing and administration is publicly available to allow rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection, trademark and other laws. This information is available to the public through the WHOIS service.
You can choose an alternative domain name, or same name with different TLD/ extension, for example, if myDomain.com is not available, you can register myDomain.net if available, or wait until the current one expires (not recommended) or if you feel that you have a right to the unavailable domain name, you could follow the domain dispute policy and try to acquire that particular domain name. Check the website availability and register your website now
The domain registration is completed as soon as we receive the completed registration form and payment. The registration process takes few minutes. A confirmation email is sent to the domain name's administrative and billing contacts with the details of the domain registration.
If we are the Registrar for your domain name, you can renew and extend the registration term for your domain at anytime by logging into the Domain Control Panel. Domains can be renewed and extended for periods from 1 to 10 years except any .IN TLD which can be registered or renewed 5 years at a time. Transfer and renew your website now
You can update contact names for administrative contact, billing contact or technical contact, the registrant address, eMail address, phone number and fax number from your Domain Control Panel and at any time.
If you had registered your domain name through our company, you may renew it through your control panel or speak to the account executive. If had you registered your domain through one of our reseller, please speak to them. Transfer and Renew your website now
Once you let us know the domain name to transfer and pay the transfer fee, we will initiate the transfer process, which will send an email to the current admin contact as listed in the WHOIS. You need to approve the transfer. In the next 24-48 hours, you may receive another email from your current registrar asking you to approve the transfer. Some registrars just notify you about the transfer and do not need your approval. It may take about a week for the actual transfer to take place. When you transfer a domain, it is automatically renewed by 1 year. Note that, you will not be able to transfer a domain up to 60 days from the date of registration. Similarly, if you transfer the domain within 45 days after renewing it, your current renewal is cancelled and you will get only 1 year of renewal that you normally get from the us. If you transfer after 45 days of the renewal, you will retain that renewal that you have done and you get 1 year renewal from us as usual. Transfer and Renew your website now
If you cancel it with in one hour of registration, we will be able to cancel and refund partial domain registration fee after deducting cancellation charges and credit card processing charges if any. If you want to cancel the registered domain name after one hour of registration, it can not be cancelled since registries do not allow cancellations with a refund. If you no longer want your domain name, we suggest that you attempt to sell your domain name through a domain name broker or give your domain name to an interested party or leave it without renewing it.
If your domain name is registered through with us, you can login to your account manager via the Domain Management link to modify the name server information for your domain name at any time.
As soon as you change the information, we send the request to the WHOIS database instantly, however, it may take some time to reflect in WHOIS database. For .COM domains, it may take about 6 hours and it varies for other TLDs.
You need to set the ‘A’ record of your new website to the same IP address as the existing website and either send a request to the existing website hosting company to point the new website to the existing website OR you can do it your self in the website hosting control panel. If we have designed your website and hosting it, we can do all of those tasks for you. Register a new website and point to your existing website now
Unfortunately, once a domain name is registered, it can not be altered, including spelling corrections. An alternative is to register the correctly spelled domain name and forward the incorrect one to your correct one. This will allow your customers can still find you even if they make the same mistake. Find variations of your website name and register many domains in few simple steps
Unlike some Registrars, when you register your domain name with us, the Registrant that you listed on the order form is considered the legal holder of the domain name for the duration of the current registration term. We have no interest in owning your domain name(s). If we wanted them, we would have registered them already!
Domain name registration is simply a name reservation service, and you are not required to do anything with your domain name. You may wish to simply reserve it, forward eMail through it, or construct a web site. It is completely up to you. If you do choose to develop a web site, we can provide top quality web design services at reasonable fee.
A registrar transfer is the act of moving a domain name from one domain name registrar to another. For example, you might move your domain name from your current registrar to our company to take advantage of wholesale domain registration and renewal fees, our technical support or domain services. A registrar transfer service is implemented by registries and made available to all domain registrars to promote competition and improved services to the broader Internet community. Please note that transferring your domain to our company will not affect the DNS information, contact eMail, or registrant name associated with your domain name. You may modify these areas after your domain name has been successfully transferred. Transfer and Renew your website now
A domain name registrar is the organization or company responsible for providing domain name registration services to the Internet community. An official domain name registrar is either authorized by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, an organization dedicated to Internet governance) to provide registration services for the .com, .net and .org global top-level domain names, or is authorized by its respective government to register domain names within a specific ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain name extension). CIRA provides this function in Canada. A registrar must also be authorized by the registry of a Top Level Domain to act as an agent of the registry to process domain name registrations, where the agent is not a reseller. The registrar is also responsible for creating and maintaining a WHOIS database for its customers.
All you need is a valid credit card and approval from the administrative and/or billing contacts for the domain name (on file with the current registrar). Use our automatic transfer to submit your transfer request online. Once your transfer request has been received, a confirmation eMail is sent to the administrative contacts to confirm the request to transfer the registrar to us.
If you do not have access to either the administrative or billing eMail addresses, please contact your current registrar for information on changing your eMail address before initiating a registrar transfer request. Please note, if only one of the contacts confirms the transfer request, it will still be processed. However, a five-day waiting period is given so the remaining contact can reply. This signals our system to send the transfer request to the registry immediately. The request will not be processed if either the administrative or billing contacts denies the transfer.
The next steps:
Unlike some Registrars, when you register your domain name with us, the Registrant that you listed on the order form is considered the legal holder of the domain name for the duration of the current registration term. We have no interest in owning your domain name(s). If we wanted them, we would have registered them already!

No. Your web site and eMail services will not be affected by our registrar transfer service. Your current registrar has the ability to reject a domain name registrar transfer request in the following situations:
You will be notified via eMail in the event that your domain name cannot be transferred due to one of the above reasons. Click here to Transfer and Renew your website now
Once you have submitted the Registrar Transfer form, you can see the status in your Domain Control Panel that we provide.
A domain with status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD (or PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE for .info domains) has expired and was not properly renewed for at least 40 days. Domains which are not renewed are deleted, after which point the Registry will hold the domain in the REDEMPTIONPERIOD/ PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE for 30 days.
Attempts would have been made to contact the Email addresses on the domain's registration record about the domain's expiration before it was actually expired. Having current, valid contact information is a requirement for all who register a domain name, as highlighted in the agreements when the domain was first registered. Renewal reminders and other important information are sent to these contacts, and having an invalid email address or aggressive SPAM filters in place will prevent delivery of these messages.
The Registry-imposed REDEMPTIONPERIOD/ PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE lasts for 30 days, and it is still possible to recover a domain in this state. The domain can only be redeemed by the original owner of the domain listed on the WHOIS prior to the deletion. If you are not the original listed owner of the domain, speak with your favorite Registration Company about how to determine when a REDEMPTIONPERIOD/ PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE domain will be available for registration again.
Redeeming a domain is more time consuming and complicated than if the domain was "renewed" normally during the first 40 days of expiration. Click here to Transfer and Renew your website now
Expired domains will be held at the registry for a grace period defined by the registry. For .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, and .cc the grace period is 40 days, for .ca it is 30 days, for .tv it is 55 days, for .cn it 10 days, for .uk domains are held until the 25th day of the month after they expire.
There are no grace periods for .de domains. They are deleted on the day after the expiration date. During the grace period all associated services will cease working until the name is renewed (if and when this happens). As well, name server/DNS changes will not be possible. If a renewal is not made by the end of the grace period the domains will sent to the registry for deletion and returned to the available pool. Deletion at the registry level can take 1 to 10 days.
Please note, .com, .net and .org registrations will enter into a "Redemption Period" state. .info registrations enter into a "Pending Delete Restorable" state. These domains will be held by the appropriate Registry for an additional 30 days. During the Redemption Period or Pending Delete Restorable state it is still possible to recover the domain name and have it renewed. Click here to Transfer and Renew your website now
Usually you cannot transfer an expired domain from another Registrar, as the currently Registrar will not support this. However, you should check with the current Registrar to verify that you can or cannot transfer the domain. If your domain is about to expire and want to renew it, click here to Transfer and Renew your website now
WHOIS can be a confusing tool to use when debugging expired domains as it requires some knowledge of how the global registration system ties together.
Will it be a .com, .net, .org, .info etc. Any of these will get spidered and indexed by the search engines, but if you can get a .com for your chosen name you'd be better off, as this extension is more common and carries an air of legitimacy with it.
Probably the most important aspect of your domain name registration is the choice of keywords to use in your domain name. Try to use the main keyword or phrase you'd like to optimize the whole site for, and see if you can craft a domain name around it. The search engines favor keyword-rich domain names.
A shorter name is easier to remember than a long one.
As search engines get smarter and smarter, sites that display total relevance will rank higher than catch-all sites.
Avoid other companies' trademarks and copyrights in your domain name.
It would do you good to register various domain name extensions (called top level domains). People often type in different extensions because they want to be sure to explore all websites that have the same name. So, if you own YourBusinessName.com, you should also buy YourBusinessName.net and YourBusinessName.org, then point one site to the other. This guarantees that you don't lose traffic due to mistaken extension and also some of your competitors won?t register that name and trouble you.
It is advisable to register different variations of your domain name so that you are assured of catching visitors who type-in words that are very similar. Click here to check many variations and TLDs for a desired domain and register now
If your company's name can be misspelled, chances are that it will be. Be proactive and register the misspelled name so that you are assured of catching the traffic. We many instances of where users type yahooo.com or yaho.com for yahoo.com. Click here to check many variations and TLDs for a desired domain and register now
If your chosen name is quite long, register both its full version, as well as its acronym. Many big companies failed to do this and have seen the consequences of this oversight. An example is General Motors which registered gm.com and generalmotors.com. Click here to register several domains with several TLDs right now
Buried in the fine print of a registrars' "Terms of Service" will be a hidden fee authorizing them to charge your credit card a "transfer-out" fee if you move your domain to another registrar. Often times, this transfer-out fee is 2 or 3 times the cost of the original registration. This practice violates the ICANN policy on domain transfers. In most cases if this happens to you a simple call to your credit card company will have the charge reversed, if you notice. Registrars who use this practice play the numbers game as many will not.
We do NOT charge any transfer-out fee. Click here to transfer your domain to us and to get one year renewal.
This is where you make a multi-year interest-free loan to the registrar. It works like this: You register a domain with them for example, 5 years (perhaps to obtain a discounted rate), you expect your domain name to be registered for 5 years. Think again, some registrars will pay the registry for 1 year and pocket the rest of your money.
Then for the rest of your five year term they'll renew each year for one year. Usually this is coupled with a strict "no-refunds" policy, so an odd situation occurs: they stand to make more money from your original registration if they lose you as a customer before your full 5 years are up, so providing poor service to the point where you leave actually adds to their bottom line.
You can use a Free WHOIS lookup tool to verify the real expiration date for your domain. It should match up with the number of years you paid your registrar for.
We register the domain as many years as per your request right away. You will be able to see the same in the WHOIS database with-in 24 hours of the registration.
Every time you register a domain name, the details of that domain registration must be published in a publicly accessible database called WHOIS.
One of the functions a registrar is supposed to be providing to you is the ability to change those WHOIS records. Some registrars (especially the bargain basement outfits) register your domain for a dirt-cheap price and then ding you with an "administration fee" when you want to edit your WHOIS record. Some others may also "lockdown" your domain for 60 days every time you make an edit to your record, preventing you from moving the name out to another registrar.
You will get the control panel and you are free to change WHOIS information as many times as you wish. We provide a locking mechanism for you in the control panel and we strongly suggest you to lock your domain as soon as you make changes. When you want to change WHOIS info, unlock the domain, do the changes as desired and lock it immediately to prevent any unauthorized transfers. Register your domain now.
Because your domain record is public for all to see, some registrars want to upsell you to "privacy services" or "WHOIS masking", "private registration", where they put their own info in the WHOIS record instead of yours.
The important thing to know here is that in the eyes of the domain Registry to which all the Registrars interact, and the Registry's oversight body (like ICANN, or in Canada, CIRA), whoever is listed in the domain WHOIS record as the domain Registrant is the legal owner of the domain name. Keep that in mind, if you use a service like this, they own the domain, not you, not withstanding whatever contract or Terms of Service you enter into with them to "own" this name on your behalf. If it lands in a dispute proceeding it will be an open and shut case: they own the name.
Taking it one step further, some "privacy" services will get you to sign up for the WHOIS privacy service and then they turn around and happily offer to sell your true data to anybody else who cares to pay for it.
We do NOT offer WHOIS privacy services. We do not want clients who want to hide themselves by not publishing their identity in WHOIS database.
There has historically been a real problem with "domain slamming" (see above) and unauthorized domain transfers, so the "registrar-lock" was created to protect a domain against this. If the registrar lock is set, nobody can transfer your domain away from you. This is actually a good thing and best practices include having this set for all your domains. The sharper registrars enable it by default when they register or transfer a domain for you. Alas, this lock can become a real problem for you if it is turned on and the registrar will not turn it off, or give you the ability to turn it on or off yourself.
Our control panel allows you to lock and unlock your domain and we strongly suggest to lock your domain as soon as you do any changes. We, ourself do not lock your domain.
Some of the Top-Level-Domains (TLDs) run on a protocol called "EPP" and to further guard against unauthorized transfers, a domain must have an 8-character auth-code supplied before it will transfer. Current examples are .BIZ, .INFO and .ORG. The current or "losing" registrar holds this code. You need it if you want to move your domain away. Hopefully they will give it to you.
Your control panel lists the AUTH-CODE and is available for you all the time without even contacting us.
You may not know this, but domain parking is big business. You know, when you click on a link somewhere or make a typo entering a web address and you wind up on some crapola "search page" optionally throwing up a million pop-up ads? That is a parked domain and the larger players can park thousands of domains and make literally millions of dollars "monetizing" them via domain parking.
You know who has access to thousands of domains? Domain registrars. Some of them offer domain registrations at rock bottom prices just so they can monetize the parked names. This may not bother you, but some people don't realize they're paying for something their registrar then uses to generate more revenue for themselves.
At the time of registration and also in the control panel, you can specify the name server that you want. It defaults to our name server if you do not specify any and shows “Under Construction” page until you host your website or change the name server. We do not display any advertisements to make money from it, we just display our own logo and list our services.
Website is cheapest salesman that you can ever find!! What are you waiting for? Register a Domain right nowNot having your own domain name will create the following perception in the minds of most people:
A strong possibility of being a "shady operator" Having your own domain does not lead people to automatically trust you. However, with this small step you will successfully alter their perception of you to:
Another important point of course is branding. You want your name to become known and familiar. Something that people can remember easily. Something they will associate with what you do. That's a tall order if you don't have your own name to begin with. With your own domain name, plus the right words and correct image, your task of creating trust is that much easier.
With the cost of new domain names now cheaper than ever, you really have no excuse for not obtaining your own. The small fee that you pay per year for your own domain name is peanuts compared to the benefits that you get.
If your company is big and/or reputable, then people expect you to have a website before any other company else. If not, people think "what is wrong with this company? They don't even have a website?". Do you know any big and/or reputable company with no telephone? I'm sure you don't. These days, website became as important as a telephone. For example, every one of us know about Maruti car. Isn't? Just because every one knows about Toyota, Toyota did not stop there. They've their own website http://Toyota.com/.
